Trees and Silhouettes Minimum of 10 trees At least 3 of the trees must have branches One tree must be in the extreme foreground Hedges/bushes behind trees Must have at least two silhouettes of recognizable figures/shapes behind the trees and bushes Horizon line – lower than middle of paper Materials used: 12X18 paper, pencil, T-square, triangle, tracing paper, light box, Sharpie, Sign Pen, colored pencils

Sketch out your landscape.

Use tools to make sure your landscape looks correct.

Tighten up/clean up drawing.

Choose your figures/shapes. Choosing the figures/shapes before landscape then arrange trees is another option.

Position your figures/shapes. Figures/shapes must be recognizable. Figures/shapes should be facing towards the middle of your drawing.

Add shadows to foreground. Shadows should angle away from center.

Outline pencil drawing with Sign Pen.

Shade trees, bushes and figures with a Sharpie in a vertical motion. Shade foreground shadows with a Sign Pen in the direction of its angle.

Choose a color for your foreground. It should be a bright color. What is your foreground? Examples: healthy grass, dry dead grass/hey, dirt, flowers, etc.

Add colors to add rim light and texture to your trees and texture to your bushes and foreground.

Choose a color for your sky. What time of day is it in your drawing? What other colors can be used for your sky?
