MQXFSD3 exploded view July 17th 2015 J.C. Perez4 Pads will be assembled using 50 and 25 mm thick SS pieces at magnet extremities 5.8 mm thick “Magnetil” laminations (LHC type iron used for MB) 25 mm thick Armco pieces between thin laminations Aluminum collars geometry will not be changed except for the inner radius still TBD
5
MQXFSD3 aluminum collars July 17th 2015 J.C. Perez5 Aluminum collars will be machined and delivered as single parts Collars will be assembled on top of each pad (using key-pad and collar slot as reference for alignment) Collars will be aligned using bushes and compressed with stainless steel rods

MQXFSD3 load-pads July 17th 2015 J.C. Perez7 The central part of load-pads packs will be assembled using a SS tube (tack welded at the extremities) 50 mm SS pieces at the end of the load-pad will be assembled using short bushes Stainless steel tube tack welded for thin laminations assembly Stainless steel rod for longitudinal compression

MQXFSD3 coil-pack assembly July 17th 2015 J.C. Perez9 Aluminum collars will not be bolted Bolting of the load-pads for coil pack assembly will be performed using screws spaced by ≈350 mm The new assembly procedure is being tested at CERN (using MQXFSD0 first structure: Thick laminations ) during MQXFSD2 assembly (3 shells configuration).
10
MQXFSD3 laminated yokes July 17th 2015 J.C. Perez10 Same configuration as per load-pad assembly (pre-assembly of 3 lamination packs) 50 mm thick plates are required at shells junctions to bolt the supporting blocks for backing strip welding (strips tack-welded to the blocks) Thick plates will also be mounted at each yoke extremity

Coil-pack assembly table July 17th 2015 J.C. Perez15 Each ¼ collars and pads subassembly will be mounted and bolted around the coils A dedicated tooling to perform the coil-pack assembly has been designed and his being assembled Assembly procedures to be qualified and adapted for longer magnets 3D views are showing the assembly steps of the first set of structure components delivered. The assembly procedure remains fully compatible with the components of the laminated structure.
