5. What is a Magnet School? A magnet school is meant to attract students who are serious about their learning and desire to take their overall academic experience to a higher level.

Student Selection Application process Eligibility (eligible to attend BCHS, current BCHS 9th grader or transfer from outside of Barren District) Academic Criteria –Explore, ACT scores –Honors Level Course(s) taken –GPA (3.25) Course Planning –Minimum of 4 AP courses by graduation –Maintain a 3.25 GPA –Dual Enrollment classes –Selection of courses based upon career interest Teacher Recommendations Mirrors Governor’s Scholars application

9. Student Contract Students must take a minimum of 4 Advanced Placement courses (dual credit is also highly encouraged) Students must make 3.25 to maintain “good standing” Two or more D’s or one F as final course grades= dismissal Academic Probation (maximum one time) Conference with student and/or parent to develop remedial plan –If successful, “good standing” returned –If not, student dismissed from program See contract for info regarding unexcused absences and discipline
