Creating Type in Illustrator There are three ways to create type in Illustrator: –Typing at a point –Typing in an area –Typing on a path

Formatting Type Format type with the Character panel –Font style, size, kerning, leading, and tracking. Format paragraphs with the Paragraph panel - Alignment and indents

The Story of Fonts (1 of 2) Fonts are a full set of printing type or of printed or screen characters of the same design. A font family is a group of similarly designed font sets, like Arial Black or Arial Italic.

Font Formats Type 1: A resolution-independent digital font type that can translate a font from the screen to a high-quality font in print –Used by graphic designers whose work specifically goes to print TrueType: The standard for digital type fonts –Within a single font format, has the ability to translate fonts for both print and screen OpenType: An extension of the TrueType font technology –Cross-platform-compatible –Supports expanded character sets and languages

Designing with Type Like color, type evokes a look and feel. Typography tips to consider for readability and visual impact: –Spacing and alignment: Line length, leading, kerning, tracking, and justification –Font selection and size: Proportional vs. fixed pitch, serif vs. sans serif, contrast (size, weight, structure, form, color, and direction)
