1 End of Key Stage 1 Assessment 2016

2 English SPAG - Spelling Paper Grammar and Punctuation Reading Papers – Paper 1 – integrated reading and questions (approx. 30mins) Paper 2 – reading booklet with separate question booklet. (approx. 40mins)

3 Maths Arithmetic Paper – 25 questions in 20mins. Reasoning Paper – using and applying questions (35 minutes) * Equipment – only a ruler is allowed.

4 Writing NO writing assessment – teachers will use a range of evidence from independent writing from across the year to make their judgement.

5 When? Children will complete the assessments during the WB 16 th May 2016. ALL children will sit ALL assessments. Please ensure children are in school during this week. If children are off sick, they will complete the assessments when they return.

6 Adult Support An adult can read the questions in the SPAG Papers and Maths Reasoning Paper but cannot assist in the others. Words cannot be explained or questions re-phrased. Mathematical symbols can not be read.

7 No more levels! Children will not be given a level. They will be assessed as – -Below Expected -Expected -Above Expected This information will be reported to you in end of year reports. If you wish to know your child’s individual test result you can ask the teacher directly.

8 Teacher Judgements Whether your child is working at expected, below expected or above expected will be decided by the class teacher. Judgements are made based an assessments but also work throughout the year. Data must be submitted to the Local Authority by the end of June.

9 Phonics Screening Test Children who did not pass the Phonics Screening Test in Year 1 will re-sit it again this year. This will take place during the week beginning 13 th June 2016.

10 How can you help? SPAG – Key words, Spelling rules, Spelling books Discuss punctuation/suffixes etc. whilst reading. Reading – Keep doing what you’re doing! Comprehension – asking questions (bookmarks) Reading longer texts/parts of texts before asking questions.

11 How can you help? Maths Timetables (inverse) Mental Maths Real life Maths problems – money, time. Writing Any practise is worthwhile – diaries, film/book reviews, stories. Cursive Handwriting.

12 Don’t Panic! We do not mention the assessments to the class – we treat them like all the other assessments we have been doing throughout the year. It is our job to make sure the children are ready and we have been all year
