2 Outcomes Understand by teaching: Steps of the research cycle Conducting searches for Books Ebooks Articles How to follow the reference guide and reference sources Conduct database searches efficiently

3 Today’s Tasks Form a group of 4 Work in group to prepare and present a teaching challenge The challenge requires you to use the concepts and skills covered in EP004 Each group will need to decide on the most effective way to complete and delivering each challenge Preparation time is 20 minutes Presentation time is between 3-5 mintues

4 Group 1 Challenge Topic: How can you effectively carry out the first 3 steps of the research cycle? Prepare a 3 – 5 minute presentation on your topic. Delegate tasks to your group members. You have 20 mins to prepare your presentation. Ideas for presenting: a slide, the whiteboard, a task for the class, role play etc. YOUR CHOICE ENSURE YOUR TEACHING POINTS ARE CLEAR

5 Group 2 Challenge Topic: Effective researching means carrying out effective searches. Prepare a 3 - 5 minute presentation on your topic. Delegate tasks to your group members. You have 20 mins to prepare your presentation. Ideas for presenting: a slide, the whiteboard, a task for the class, role play etc. YOUR CHOICE ENSURE YOUR TEACHING POINTS ARE CLEAR

6 Group 3 Challenge Topic: Effective researching means evaluating your information effectively. Prepare a 3 - 5 minute presentation on your topic. Delegate tasks to your group members. You have 20 mins to prepare your presentation. Ideas for presenting: a slide, the whiteboard, a task for the class, role play etc. YOUR CHOICE ENSURE YOUR TEACHING POINTS ARE CLEAR

7 Group 4 Challenge Topic: How to save time when carrying out database searches. Prepare a 3 - 5 minute presentation on your topic. Delegate tasks to your group members. You have 20 mins to prepare your presentation. Ideas for presenting: a slide, the whiteboard, a task for the class, role play etc. YOUR CHOICE ENSURE YOUR TEACHING POINTS ARE CLEAR

8 Review Groups deliver their presentations to the class. Class members can comment or add ideas at the end of each presentation

9 Exam Information Exams begin in Week 13 – beginning 31 st October Venue – usual class venue Time – usual class time Exam = 1hour 40mins (10 mins reading time + 1hr 30mins working time) Study tasks will be available on our blog, wikispaces and blackboard on Monday week 12. Study break = Week starting 24 th October

10 Exam Format Format will be very similar to the last in-class test Content of exam will cover concepts and skills covered throughout the semester You will need to know the research cycle thoroughly and how to practically carry out each of the steps ( including referencing ) Exam will consist of: Theory based questions Knowledge of referencing Scenarios

11 Presentations Presentations are due next week (week 12) All presentations will be conducted in class-time Read your criteria and rubric sheet carefully Bring all required items (listed on criteria sheet) Bring your best smile and courage
