Bracero Program bracero, meaning "manual laborer" or "one who works using his arms“ a series of laws and diplomatic agreements, initiated by an August 1942 exchange of diplomatic notes between the United States and Mexico, for the importation of temporary contract laborers from Mexico to the United States. Zoot Suit Riots Upon hearing a rumor that a group of zoot- suit teenagers attacked several sailors, around 2,500 soldiers and sailors stormed into Mexican- American neighborhoods.

They cut their hair and tore off their suits. No police intervention occurred. The Zoot Suit Riots were an example of Mexican-American racial tensions that occurred during the war years.
