Do Now Nov. 4th In your Do Now Book, list ways that you used energy this morning.
2
The law of conservation of energy is a law of science that states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but only changed from one form into another or transferred from one object to anotherlaw of conservation of energy Ι. The Nature of Energy
3
A. Energy The ability to do work or cause change. When work is done, energy is transferred. Measured in Joules.
4
B. Two Kinds Of Energy: 1. Kinetic energy Energy of motion. Kinetic energy of an object depends on both its mass and its velocity. As mass increases, kinetic energy increases. As velocity increases, kinetic energy increases.
5
2. Potential Energy Energy that is stored and held in readiness. Has potential to do work. Greater height, weight, or mass = greater potential energy. Can be changed to kinetic energy.
6
C. Many Forms of Energy: Mechanical: (Movement) Chemical: (Food energy) Electrical: (Electricity, batteries) Electromagnetic: (Light) Nuclear: (Reactions of atoms: Fusion in stars) Thermal : (Heat)
7
D. The Sun Source of both Electromagnetic Energy (Light) and Thermal Energy (Heat). Source of Thermal Energy that drives the Water Cycle. winds and currents.
