3.  There were many reasons for colonizing Nigeria  Some of them were ◦ To spread religious beliefs ◦ Develop trade ◦ To get natural resources ◦ And to civilize the Nigerian Natives

4.  There are 250+ tribes in Nigeria  The major tribes affected by colonialism where ◦ Brono ◦ Oyo ◦ Igbo ◦ And Benin

5.  Got education  Practice of other religions  A more modern society  Started a government

6.  Loss of land  Loss of independence  Diseases killed many  Fights and wars  “Normality” was taken away

7.  British sent military to expand their territory  A charter gave the north part of Nigeria to the British  British ruled Nigeria in the late 19 th century

8.  Schools were established  Christianity was introduced  English was taught  A code of conduct was made for the villages

9.  Democracy  Wealthy economy for southern Nigeria

10.  Violence  Struggle for representation in government  Poverty

11.  Some traditional aspects remain, like languages, property rights, social class and food  Some houses still remain non-urban  Some ways of life are entangled with the urban influence  Roles are different for men and women
