Bariatric surgery is the surgery to cut off excessive fat from the body.

A BMI of more than 37.5 kg / m2 or having a weight of 30 kg more than the normal weight A BMI of more than 32.5 kg / m2 for the patients having diabetes Patients who have not progressed with other medical weight reduction techniques The patients has to be between the age of 16 years to 80 years The patients has been an obese for a continuous 3 to 5 years The patients has to be psychologically sound The patients should not consume alcohol.

The risk of death association with Bariatric surgery is much more than in case of death due to obesity. The fact is that obesity is the second most leading cause for preventable death cases after tobacco being the first. As per a recent study it has been found that the rate of death for an obese person is almost double than the rate for a non obese person.

Restrictive Procedure This aims at reducing the amount of food intake by leaving the patient in complete sate. ( sleeve resection) Malabsorptive / Combination This aims at the prevention of absorption of food by the patients. ( Roux – en – Y Gastric Bypass )
