Aggression Watch the You Tube clip and discuss the following: 1)How might videos like this lead to copy cat behaviour? 2)How might television like this lead to desensitisation? 3)Come up with a definition of aggression. Deliberately unfriendly behaviour that is often intended to cause harm, usually observed through verbal or physical acts. Extension: What individual differences may affect how television influences aggression?

Social Learning Theory (AO1) Discuss; What type of people may be considered role models? Social Learning Theory suggests that behaviour is learnt (behaviourist) via imitation of a role model. Extension: What characteristics make these people role models? Put this in your notes

Social Learning Theory (AO1) 1.People who care for the child e.g. parents. 2. Authority figures e.g. teachers. 3. People who are similar to the child in some way e.g. age, gender, ethnicity. 4. Celebrities e.g. movie characters and sports stars whose aggressive behavior is seen to be rewarded. Put this in your notes Role models are...

Your task (10 minutes) Use pages 114-115 to make notes on SLT. Make sure you include the following key terms: Vicarious reinforcement Attention Retention Reproduction (and self efficacy) Motivation Reciprocal Determinism Extension: For each of the four role models, give a specific example of aggressive behaviour and imitation using the key terms above. For each of these terms give an example that is specifically related to aggression.

SLT & the media (10 minutes) Design a TV programme to deter aggression, using at least 4 of the ideas of SLT; Vicarious reinforcement Attention Retention Reproduction (and self efficacy) Motivation Reciprocal Determinism Extension: Can you think of any reasons why your programme would not be effective?

Homework Due next lesson: 1)Summarise Bandura’s study (on page 115) in no more than 100 words. 2)State HOW it supports SLT. 3)Look over your AID your AO2 project and write down some ideas of how free will vs. determinism and nature vs nurture are relevant to SLT. Preparation for next lesson: Think about how else SLT as an explanation for aggression can be evaluated.
