VSC YOUNG ADULT SUNDAY SERMON DECEMBER 29, 2012 Seek God While You’re Still Young.
10
Don’t wait. Till you are old… Don’t think you’re still too young. Don’t wait until you’re old/grown-up Before you serve God.
11
Ecclesiastes 12:1 A king named Solomon says: 12 Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”—
12
Ecclesiastes 12:1 New Living Translation 1 Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget about your creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old, And no longer enjoy living.
13
Waste their whole lives, Partying Drinking Smoking Chasing women Never satisfied with what they have Many people waste their whole life and live a life of regret.
14
Seek the Lord while you’re young because… Young life = fresh mind, energy, clean record and you’re in your prime.
16
Ecclesiastes 12:2-3 New Living Translation 2 before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark 3 when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men stoop,
17
Christians are not perfect. That’s why we seek the one, Jesus Christ. He is the replacement of our sins We know we’re not perfect, we know we sin and we must go to Jesus to save us.
18
King Solomon
19
The Story of Solomon 1. Solomon learned how to seek God and pray to God
20
The Story of Solomon 1. Solomon learned how to seek God and pray to God 2 Chronicles 1:6 6 Solomon went up to the bronze altar before the L ORD in the tent of meeting and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it.
21
The Story of Solomon 2. God responded and asked what he wanted. 2 Chronicles 1:7 7 That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”
22
The Story of Solomon 3. Instead of seeking materialistic things, Solomon seeked wisdom and knowledge. 2 Chronicles 1:10 10 Now, L ORD God, Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
23
The Story of Solomon 4. God replied to Solomon with more than he asked for. 2 Chronicles 1:11 11 “Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, 12 therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, possessions and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.”
24
Matthew 6:33 Seek onto God’s Kingdom and all these things will be added onto you. Seek God in everything you do.
25
Solomon started out right!
26
SEEK GOD WHILE YOU’RE YOUNG!
27
Promise: If you seek God, he will… Establish you Give you a purpose driven life He will take care of you But if you turn against him, his judgment will be upon you. “Yolo” – NO!
28
Committing your life to Christ 1. You’ve accepted Jesus Christ to be your savior, your father and your life “guide” 2. You truly believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross so that you could go to heaven
29
Back to Solomon!
30
The Story of Solomon Along with blessings, God also gives warnings. Solomon had a Change of Heart Visited by Queen Got to his head Right before destruction, comes pride
31
Give God the praise!!! YOU are gifted from the Lord. But as the bible says, when you’re gifted, you will attract all people.
32
Downfall of Solomon Loved having power, loved his possessions… He started to love the gifts more than the giver.
33
Downfall of Solomon Solomon’s weakness = WOMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even when God told him not to He had 700 wives, 300 concubines…and his wives turned his heart away.
34
Young adults… You cannot please everyone. Some of those people will turn you away from God.
35
So then what happened?! Judgement comes. God always finds a way to warn you before you do something that will turn your heart away.
36
Remember Peter in the New Testiment? “You will deny me three times before the morning...” God knows you. You need to stay close to him so that you don’t make as many mistakes.
37
So God warned him again… 9 And the L ORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the L ORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice, 10 And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the L ORD commanded. 11 Wherefore the L ORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, God said, I will surely take the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.
38
Redemption… God brings in an adversary to compete against Solomon and to set him straight. There are times in our life when God puts people/experiences in our lives to line you up.
39
But God never left Solomon… I will not take the whole kingdom, but I will make him ruler all the days of his life. He still left Solomon with one tribe And that tells me that God cannot and will not take his holy spirit from you once you’re saved and once you’ve confessed Jesus Christ is your savior. “We’ve been sealed with the holy spirit”
40
Ecclesiastes 12:1 A king named Solomon says: 12 Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”—
41
New Year!!! Don’t waste your life chasing things, chase after God. Seek God while you’re young.
