3  Regular constructions of place connoted by prepositions + the appropriate case.  In + abl (in/on), sub + abl (under), in + acc (into), ad + acc (to/toward), sub + acc (under), ab + abl (away from), de + abl (down from), ex+abl (out from).

4  Cities, towns, small islands, domus (home/house), humus (earth, ground, soil), rus (country, countryside) are special cases.  Place where connoted by the locative case (= genitive singular for 1 st & 2 nd declension nouns and ablative singular for all others).  Place to which connoted by accusative without a preposition.  Place from which connoted by ablative without a preposition.  Cf. 5  Words connoting time or duration in the ablative indicate time when or within which an action occurs.  Words connoting time or duration in the accusative without a preposition indicate duration of time or for how long an action occurs.  Cf. Wheelock, p. 263
