2. Age Restrictions You must be at least age 18 to obtain an Illinois driver’s license. The following exceptions apply: If you are 16 or 17 years old and have successfully completed a state-approved driver education course

Exemptions You may drive in Illinois without a valid driver’s license under the following circumstances Moved to Illinois from another state (90 days) Visiting Illinois from another state and own a driver’s license from that state Out-of-state student and have a driver’s license from that state Active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and have a valid drivers license in your home state

7. Exemptions Where you may drive in Illinois without a valid drivers license (Continued) Employed by the U.S. Government and have a valid driver’s license in your home state Operating farm machinery on a roadway between farm and near by farmland

8. Changing Your Name/Address Change Name A person has 30 days to legally change your name Address Change A person has 10 days to change your address These changes can be done at your local driver’s services facility

9. Document/Identification Requirements To receive an Illinois driver’s license/ID card you must provide acceptable forms of identification to prove the following: Legal Name Date of Birth Social Security number Residency Signature

11. Document/Identification Requirements In addition to the identification requirements, students will provide: Current White Slip 50 hours driving sheet completed Completed road test

12. Driver’s License Classifications Drivers seeking a basic license to operate a car in Illinois are issued a Class D license Class D Any motor vehicle weighing 16,000 pounds or less

13. Driver’s License Renewal 90 days before your driver’s license expires, you should receive a renewal notice from the Secretary of States Office

14. Driver’s License Renewal A driver’s license is valid for four years and expires on the driver’s birthday except: Driver under age 21 – License expires three months after 21 st birthday Driver age 81-86 – License valid for two years Driver age 87 and older – License requires annual renewal
