Key Terms Puberty Personal Hygiene
A phase of development that occurs when a child's body changes into an adult body and is ready for the possibility of reproduction. Personal Hygiene Caring for your body and keeping it clean to stop illness and infection

Puberty Puberty includes a variety of changes, including a growth spurt, maturation of the reproductive system, and the development of sexual characteristics During sexual maturation, the reproductive organs develop and become fully functional. At this time, an individual will also grow in height and body composition will change (increased fat in females, increased lean muscle in males).

Teen boys go through many changes during puberty Pubic Hair develops Chest hair develops Facial hair develops Deepening of the voice Penis increases in size and length Testes grow and begin to produce sperm

Teen girls go through many changes during puberty Breast growth Pelvis widens Pubic hair develops Underarm hair develops Ovaries start to produce eggs Onset of menstruation

Don’t be embarrassed During puberty you will notice you will sweat more, get more spots and may notice body odour increases This is completely natural and nothing to be embarrassed about To help combat this you should ensure you maintain a good level of personal hygiene

Personal Hygiene: How to deal with the changes throughout puberty
Personal hygiene is not only important to limit the spread of infection but is also important for the self-esteem of the child and affects how they feel about themselves. Personal hygiene includes doing the following EVERY DAY: Using deodorant Showering /bathing, paying special attention to intimate areas Wearing clean clothes Cleaning your face ( to prevent spots) Brushing teeth (at least twice a day) Hand washing regularly It also includes doing the following when necessary: Cutting nails Washing hair Using sanitary protection (girls) Wash school uniform every week (P.E kit after every use)
