Scene 1 ARMAN: *speaks while video of class with no audio plays in background* Here we observe adolescent’s in their natural habitat, high school. Being an adolescent is an important stage of a person’s life. Adolescents experience changes that guide them into adulthood. The age of adolescents ranges from 12 years to 20 years of age..

Scene 1 cont ARMAN: During this time, boys may experience deepening of the voice, and increased facial hair. Both girls and boys also become more prone to things like pimples, and body odor. Growth spurts usually occur during this time, along with muscle growth These pictures are shown as Arman narrates to emphasize the text

Scene 2- Interview #1 *Video of ARMAN interviewing SISTER will be shown with following script* ARMAN: What do you think an adolescent is? SISTER: I don’t know, a 16 year old ARMAN: How do you think adolescent's change? SISTER: They change due to the people around them, because they want to change. ARMAN: How do people change during puberty? SISTER: They change due to hormones, and that affects their physical and mental development. ARMAN: Do you have any tips for adolescents? SISTER: Figure out who you are in the beginning, and not let people change you or your decisions.

Scene 3-Physical Changes KUSH: There are many physical changes that occur in during puberty in both males and females. Female changes include: -breast development -pubic, armpit, and leg hair -menarche (beginning of menstrual periods) -growth spurts -mood changes Pictures are shown to emphasize text

Scene 3 cont KUSH: Male changes include: -testicle, scrotum, and penis growth -pubic, armpit, leg, chest, and facial hair -nocturnal emissions (wet dreams) -deeper voices -growth spurts Pictures are shown to emphasize text

Scene 4- Motor Sensory KUSH: Overall, there are 2 main motor sensory developmental changes that take place in adolescents. The first change is an increase in gross motor skills. For example, being able to lift heavier weights. These are large muscle movements which allow adolescents to utilize more of their muscles. Picture emphasizes meaning of text

Scene 4-Fine Motor The second change is an increase in fine motor skills. For example, being able to write neater. Fine motor skills allow teenagers to accomplish more precise and tiny movements with their muscles.

Scene 5-Cognitive Development KUSH: As children enter adolescent hood, they may find that they are having different thoughts and feelings. They include: The questioning of authority and religion Intolerance of opposing views The questioning of sexual orientation The formation of a code of ethics which they must live by The formation of long term plans Their potential role in society Pictures Support Meaning Of text

Scene 6-Interview #2 *Audio will be heard of interview as follows* KUSH: Do you consider yourself “on top of the world?” BROTHER: Yes, I know I can do anything even if someone says that I can or should not. KUSH: Do you have any long term goals for yourself? BROTHER: Yes, I do. I want to become an architect when I grow up. KUSH: Have you been questioning any authority recently? BROTHER: Yes. WHY ARE YOU QUESTIONING ME ABOUT THIS? I DON’T CARE IF YOU ARE OLDER THAN ME.

Scene 7-Erikson’s stages of life development ARMAN: Erikson’s psychosocial stage description accurately describes the stage of adolescence. The major conflict in adolescents during this time is “identity vs. confusion.” It is the confusion of what adolescents want to do when the grow older. According to Erikson, the resolution is to find faith in something or someone. For example, having faith or loyalty to a relative, friend, or a role model

Scene 7- Cont During this time, adolescents also learn life lessons. They will learn that life is complex and not always easy to understand. This is very important in their development.

Scene 8-Major Milestones HASSAAN: Both boys and girls show an increase their capacity for abstract thinking. A major personality development in teens is the formation of an individual identity. Adult height is reached in girls by 15-16 years old.

Scene 9- Health Risks Hassaan: -Homicide -Suicide -Drinking and Driving -Drugs -STDs & HIV -Teens and Unplanned Pregnancies. Video with examples will be shown after audio and pictures

Scene 10-Interview #3 *Audio of the interview will be available as follows* HASSAAN: What health risks do you think adolescents face these days? SISTER: I think the biggest health risks are drugs and suicide. HASSAAN: Are there any major achievements kids our age can achieve? SISTER: Well, if they are struggling through something such as depression or drugs, the milestone is passing this difficult stage HASSAAN: Is there any advice you would like to suggest to the teenagers. SISTER: Yes, this stage of life is the most difficult and know that you are not alone. Don’t seek help from kids your age for they have no experience. Rather ask help from adults such as your parents or counselor.

Scene 11-Immunizations ARMAN: As adolescents grow, they must have immunizations in order to stay healthy. Necessary immunizations include the vaccines for: Chickenpox Hepatitis A/B Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Influenza Measles/Mumps/Rubella(MMR) Meningitis Pneumonia Polio Tetanus/Diphtheria/Whooping Cough(pertussis; Tdap)

Scene 12-Nutrition Considerations *Video will show of all foods listed, after audio and pictures* ARMAN: Good nutritious food is important in growth and development in adolescents Vegetables: Carrots/Celery/Cucumbers/Salad Fruit: Melon/Orange/Banana/Apple Other: Fat free milk/Whole wheat bread/Oatmeal
