1 What is the speed of light? Light travels at 299,792,458 meters/second (186,282 miles/second). Knowing this you can figure how far we can go in a single second of travel. Although it seems fast it is actually slow compared to the size of the universe but it is the fastest way to travel in the universe. How does FTL work? The way FTL is suppose to work 1 st - by creating a field around the ship ( Warp Field) that will carry the ship and all its contents around the universe V= - (alpha) Tr(K) 2 nd - you have to pick your target and account for any planetary drift and make sure there are no objects you will run into V_s(t)= (dx_s (t)) / dt 3 rd - we have to propel the ship forward at the speed of light using the power of the warp drive ( Named Alcubierre Drive) ds^2 = - ((alpha)^2 – (beta)i(beta)^i) dt^2 + 2(beta)idx^(I)dt + ((yijdx^i) (dx^i)) 4 th - Return home using return information given before mission start. Speed Of Light Ship model 4B Anthony Acevedo / aaaceved@asu.edu Collins & Noble / 3D Tools– ART 218 / Digital Culture / Fall 2015 Abstract Faster than light travel (FTL) is a concept that was only thought to be possibles in movies and TV shows. But now with NASA’s announcement that they will make efforts in to building a FTL capable ship the science community has jumped with joy that some thing thought to be science fiction is now becoming science fact. Research Question What is the most efficient design for a multipurpose star ship that is capable of going faster then the speed of light? Precedents and Prior Research NASA in the middle of Last year unveiled they will be working on a ship capable of achieving faster than light travel. Before this Faster in life travel was only talked about in science fiction television (Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica). I want this project to push more resources and efforts toward building faster than light travel ships. Process In the beginning I started off designing several profile views of star ships. I started with a very science fiction look then narrowing it down to make it more realistic to todays technology. By using Rhinoceros 5 I put the simple shapes in combined them and made my starship. To make my design I had to study what was an “aerodynamic” shape for FTL travel. It as easier t analyze when I saw it in a 3D image. Results The ship has the “aerodynamic” shape, It has a way to be a multipurpose vehicle with the cargo bay installed. The ship can also pass several mooch missions steaming from exploration to planetary defense against asteroids. Conclusion The SOLS4B ( Speed Of Light Ship ) has everything it need to be a functioning multipurpose star ship fro both deep space and inter-solar system and can perform multiple tasks in the space environment, theoretically. Acknowledgements I would like to thank my classmates Danielle, Jenny and Brian for their constant support and friendship. Also like to thank my dad for his technical advice. Possible Mission Scenarios 1- Deep space exploration. Going to investigate a target in deep space. 2- Deployments of Satellites. Giving the satellite an advantage by starting closer to its target. 3- Intercepting impending asteroid impact. Intercepts asteroid and either destroys it before it gets to close and land debris in the asteroid belt or use booster rockets to push the asteroid out of the way of impacting the Earth.
