Difficulties and Obstacles Engine head was an extremely difficult piece: Many extrusions Many difficult areas to measure Certain Parts within the head are unreachable Bulky and had to be measured in the lab

Difficulties (cont’d) Cam follower connections: 24 valves meant that 24 cam- follower connections needed to be made Extremely slow process on DSV computers Original caps had flat surfaces on the top, but a cam follower works much better with a rounded surface

Improvements and Modifications Exhaust - Straightened for better air flow - In a drag race the rider is typically laying flat on the bike, so an angled exhaust is not necessary

Improvements and Modifications (cont’d) No cooling vents were made: Since this engine head was made for a drag race it will not heat up long enough to need cooling vents Simplifies machining and design
