3 High Risk Code Factors Substandard Building Violations. Lack of hot water. Lack of general sanitation in the guest rooms (mattresses, bedding, restroom) and common areas. Toxic items stored improperly. Insects or rodent infestation. Broken and Hazardous furnishings. Trash and debris accumulations. One or more room closures in the past 12 months. 3

5 2009 Highlights Initially identified significant fire, life and safety violations at 17 facilities. Number of facilities increased to 27 by early 2009. 400 Inspections performed 164 Rooms closed. 56 Citations issued. Three facilities were taken to the Building Standards Commission. 5

Zero Tolerance on Fire, Life and Safety violations. Additional facilities scheduled for the Building Standards Commission. Continue to Enhance Interdepartmental Coordination (Code/Police/Law/Courts/Parole/Others) Draft ordinance amendments for better fee recovery, penalties and regulation of high risk facilities. 14
