History of the Islands The islands are close to India. Sri Lanka, Maldives have strong tries to Indian subcontinent country has its own district history. In 6 th century B.C. people from the northern plains of India crossed the narrow strait separating the subcontinents they were known as Sinhalese.

Life in the Islands It’s a diverse mix of ethnic and religious groups. Sinhalese Buddhist make up nearly 75% of the population. Kandyan is the most popular dance of all the story of local kings and heroes and they are reformed at festivals.

Economy and the Islands Until the 1989 tourism was also growing in svilanka then civil war began and the tourist industry collapsed Like most of south Asia's economies the economy of sri lanka is based on agriculture mainly vice farming.
