2 African Necklaces Samburu is located in Kenya in Africa Beaded jewelry is an important part of the Samburu culture

3 African Necklaces Beaded jewelry is mainly worn for beauty but can also be for special occasions

4 African Necklaces Below are some of the different symbolism that colors represent (many are in regards to cattle) –Red: Bravery, strength –Blue: Sky which means water for the cattle –Green: Land which grows food for the cattle –Yellow: Hospitality –White: Purity –Black: Hardships in life

5 Supplies You Will Need Paper plates Paint Black sharpie

6 Step 1 Have students write their name on rim of paper plate Cut a hole out of the middle of the plate

7 Step 2 Paint the necklace with any design and colors you would like

8 Step 3 Outline the shapes in black permanent marker (if time permits)
