What is RefWorks? RefWorks is a research management tool that allows you to manage and organize your references in your own personal database. RefWorks generates your bibliography in a format you want and allows you to integrate your references into your article, theses, assignment or other research work.

Access Via UWC website, click on “Library” to access the library homepage

Access Click on the “INFORMATION” tab and then click on “RefWorks” If you are off-campus, click on “Off- Campus Users”

Off-campus Access to RefWorks Enter your “student number” and “date of birth” using the format provided

RefWorks User Login To create a new account, click on “Sign up for an Individual Account”

Creating New Account Enter your details, enter the code and click on “Register”

Creating a New Folder Click on “New Folder” and name the folder

Add New Reference To add new reference, click on “References” and select “Add New”

Add New Reference Fill in the required fields

Importing References from a Database (EbscoHost) Insert keywords on the search boxes provided Limit your results by selecting “Full text” and “Scholarly Journals”

Selecting References To select references, click on “Add to folder.” After you have selected all the references, click on “Folder View”

Exporting References Select references by ticking the boxes, and Click on “Export”

Exporting References Select “Direct Export to RefWorks” and Click on the “Save” icon

Viewing Imported References Click on “View Last Imported Folder”

Adding References to a Folder Select “All in List,” go to “Folders” and select your folder

Write-N-Cite The RefWorks Write-N-Cite plug-in fully integrates MS Word and RefWorks so that you may easily insert citations into your Word document directly from your RefWorks account By installing the Write-N-Cite plug-in from RefWorks you may easily insert your saved references within your research text, at the click of a button. The plug-in allows you to run RefWorks within MS Word. It installs a RefWorks button on your Word toolbar and on your desktop. To use Write-N-Cite with RefWorks you must download a small utility program to your computer.

Downloading Write-N-Cite Go to “Tools” and select “Write-N-Cite”

Downloading Write-N-Cite Select your version and click “Download”
