Truth # 2 The Source of Truth What Truth can Do For Man The Source of Error What Error Does to Man
2
In our first lesson we learned: – Jesus Christ is the truth – One who continues in His word will know the truth and will be set free. – These things are true because of Who Jesus Christ is. – He is the Word, which is and was God, the Son of God who became man and who revealed God the Father to humanity. He is the way (that’s the way to God) and He is the life (that’s eternal life).
3
In This Lesson we will learn that God is the source of all truth. – We will learn why this is so. – We will learn the source of all that is untrue, or false, and how and why this is so. – We will then understand what a person must do in order to be right.
4
The Bible informs us that God cannot lie. – KJV Hebrews 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: – KJV Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
5
All true moral or religious teachings come from God. Example: KJV Romans 13:8-10 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. 9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
6
Love motivates one to obey God. – KJV John 14:23-24 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
7
Since God is Absolute, Truth is Absolute. – Definition: Absolute – free from imperfection; complete; perfect; (2 not mixed or adulterated. – Truth is “the real thing”; it that which is REAL. It is THAT WHICH IS. KJV Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. – Truth is as unchangeable as God is. KJV Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. – KJV James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
8
Therefore: – If what God has said is changed in anyway, it is no longer true. – KJV 1 Peter 4:11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
9
If the world’s population knew and practiced these things: – They would be united and be as one people! – Let’s read what Jesus prayed for: – KJV John 17:19-21 – Now let’s read what the Apostle Paul asked the Corinthian Christians to do: – KJV 1 Corinthians 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
10
Unity Does Exist! Look at the things of which there is only one. – KJV Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Man can be part of this unity, if he wants it! – KJV Ephesians 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Paul asked the Corinthians some questions: – KJV 1 Corinthians 1:13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
11
Truth is so important because only the truth is real. Let’s see why this is true. Before creation God (Elohim) alone existed. – God is used to translate the Hebrew אֱלֹהִים Elohim. This word is plural, indicating more than one God. Since it is plural, it refers to all three Godhead members. – God the Father – God the Son – God the Holy Spirit All three of them were active in creation. – KJV Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. – KJV Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: – KJV Genesis 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil:
12
Before anything was created, only God (Elohim) existed, only they were “real”. – There was nothing except Elohim of which it could be truthfully said, “this, or that is____(fill the blank with anything.) There was nothing else, except Elohim. – As they created things, They brought into existence things that had never before existed. – Afterwards, creation was filled with things that were real, genuine, factual, substantive – true. One could point to a “tree” and say, “this is a tree”, or to a “fish” and say, “that is a fish, and be telling the truth.
13
KJV Genesis 1:31 Elohim saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. What does that mean? – There was absolutely nothing about anything that was made that was bad or harmful! – Everything created was “true” to the purpose for which God created it. – But – Look around today! What happened?! – Sin was committed!
14
The Bible does not inform us when Satan, or the Devil, was created. – We know he was created a good being. KJV John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. KJV Colossians 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: KJV John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
15
When Satan approached Eve in Eden, he had already rebelled against God. Jesus said “he was a murderer from the beginning, John 8:44. Satan is fully identified for us, KJV Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
16
Jesus said in John 8:44, He not only is a liar, but he is the father of all lies. – So all that is not truth, that is not real, factual or genuine comes from the Devil. He is the author of all things false. – All people who do not want the truth, must settle for the lie. There are no other choices. Either truth, or a lie. – Just think of the consequences! – If a person choses a lie, he will miss that which is real, and will have in its place that which is not real and is only fake. – God is the source of all that’s real. – The Devil is the source of all that’s fake.
17
The Devil is a created being, he himself cannot create. – Since he cannot create, he cannot make anything real, substantive, genuine, or that is true. – So all that comes from the Devil is a lie, it’s fake, false, unreal and untruthful. Sin is transgressing God’s law, KJV 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. – Sin is doing a thing that God has not authorized. – This is true of all things sinful: lying, stealing, cheating, fornication, adultery, murder, jealousy, guile strife, gossip, etc., etc.
18
God, being real, is truth, and is the Source of all truth. If man will love the Truth, he will keep God’s commandments, KJV John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. But those who refuse the truth, have only one other choice, and that is to accept the lie, which cannot save them from anything.
19
The lie brings condemnation. KJV 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
20
If God approved a lie, He would be self- condemned, because He is TRUTH. Some people think God could save the unrighteous person in his lie. – If God could do that, then He would not have had to give the life of His Son for sinful man, who became sinful because he obeyed a lie. – He gave the life of His Son because He loved sinful man, and His Son’s life made it possible for God to save man “from” his sins, not “in” his sins. – Anyone who persists to remain “in” his sins, has no Savior. – Jesus Christ gave His life to save those who will turn away from the lie and turn to Him, who is the Truth.
21
He is the truth, AND He will save those who come to Him. KJV Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
22
God offers sinful man a DEAL! KJV 2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. – Here’s the deal: Would you trade your appointment with death for an appointment with life? – That’s exactly what God wants you to do. TO LIVE FOR JESUS WHO DIED FOR YOU. NOW – IS THAT A DEAL?
