2 FAMILY TRADITION At the begining of the Turkish history,Turkish people were living with small family.The family formed with mother,father and their children. But then Turkish people started to live in the houses so the number of the family members became greater. All the people effected each other so we have a traditional culture which is including our life and the other country’s life which is near us.

3 FOOD Turkish kitchen has got different kind of meals.These meals are very delicious and the visitors like them and take their recipes. A typical Turkish breakfast,usually light,consists of tea,white cheese,bread,butter,eggs,marmalade,or honey and olives. Our important meals are,rice,meat,köfte,kebab,karnıyarık,sarma,döner. Our important drinks are tea,rakı,wine,fruit juice,turkish coffee,ayran.

4 HOW THE YOUNGS GET PERMISSION FROM THEIR PARENTS !!? First of all young people meet and speak this situation with their parents.If their parents give permission to marriage, The girl kisses all boy’s parents’ hands. Then they decide about the date for engagement. ENGAGEMENT CEREMONY After the family give permission to youngs, they wear rings.It is believed that these rings are symbolising of their love.All the relatives join to this ceremony. HENNA NIGHT We do it before the wedding ceremonies night.It usually begins on Friday.It’s an event for women only.The women decorate the hands and fingers of the bride with henna-leaf dye,and dance and sing together. WEDDING CEREMONY In wedding ceremony we serve lunch and dinner to our guests.And then the bride is taken to the groom’s home on a horse after folk dances are performed.

6 SOCIAL LIFE Hospitality is an integral part of Turkish culture.Friends,relatives and neighbours often visit each other.In large cities people usually try to telephone in advance,but in places where this is not practial they may visit without notice.The traditional of hospitality dictates that visitors are always invited in and offered something to drink,such as tea,coffe or water and sometimes something to eat such as pasta or biscuits. First time visitors to a home may bring a small gift,such as confectionery,fruit or flowers.

7 MUSIC We love music and we are listening Kıraç,Tarkan,Sertap Erener,Funda Arar,Kenan Doğulu etc.... And we are going their concers to listen them.

8 SPORT At the begining of history we are playing wrestling,the horse racing,jovelin etc... Wrestling has been the national sport for many centuries. But now we are playing football,basketball,voleyball etc... And the football is the most popular sport in Turkey.

9 BLUE BEAD We believe that the blue bead diffends us from the badness.Its apperences is like an eye.We usually use it.

10 BRIDE’S TROUSSEAU A girl who is going to be married prepare bride’s trousseau which is including pillow,carpet,quilt etc.. In rural areas,families usually decide on whom a person will marry,but in urban areas the choice is generrally that of the couple.A marriage is not permitted for women before the age of 15 and man before the age of 17. In cities many wait until their education and sometimes military service have been completed before getting married.The avarage age for marriage is 24 for women and 26 for men.

11 Folk Painting Examples of folk paintings can be seen in the decorations used on trucks and carts and on walls where the extraordinary mythological creatures of legend are portrayed. In glass painting, produced with different colours and silvering papers, the most commonly used designs are the sahmaran (the main female character of a legend who has the body of a snake) and unicorns. In addition to these, views (the İstanbul Strait, lakes with swans, village scenes), bunches of flowers, and especially roses, and evil eye designs are used to embellish horse carriages and carts. Carpets, rugs and other woven goods produced by the women of Anatolia may be considered examples of abstract painting.

13 FIRE OF ANATOLIA Fire of Anatolia which connects our old culture to now is showing our culture to world.

14 HIDIRELLEZ Hıdırellez is one of the seasonal festivals which is celebrated on may 6th.People make a wish on this day.They believe their wishes will come true by making a small model of what they want. Various dishes are prepared.The next day they go for a picnic,sing folk songs and play different games. NEVRUZ Nevruz means new day.It is symbolizing of the spring.We celebrate it in 22 March. NATIONAL FESTIVALS Our national festivals are that; -Atatürk’s Memorial Day and Youth Day(19 May) -Republic Day (29 October) -Victory Day (30 August) -National Savereignty Day (23 April,Coinciding with Children’s Day)

16 RELIGION FESTIVALS RAMADAN FESTIVAL Muslims are fasting 30 days after these days,Ramadan Bayram comes. SACRIFICE We cut the sheep and cows.We offer sacrifice’s meat to poor people and our neighbours and relatives. We do same thing at these festivals.For example,we are kissing our elderly people hands,we eat candy,we visit each other.The festivals make people come together.
