Environmental Statistics The work programme of the CSO is organized under the following 4 subject matter divisions: Agriculture Statistics Economic Statistics National Economic Accounts Population, Social and Vital Statisti Divisions are supported by: Computer Division GIS and Mapping Section Composing Unit, Illustration and Printing Publication, Information and Library Administration and Accounts

Environmental Statistics cont’d Not currently an on-going activity in the work programme of the Divisions. Proposals for the Restructuring of the CSOTT recommends inclusion within a new Division Agriculture and Environment Statistics. The Agriculture Statistics Division intends to assume responsibility within the current structure. CSO in collaboration with key stakeholders mainly from the public sector compiled and produced a the First Compendium of Environmental Statistics in 2007 providing data up to 2004.

Environmental Statistics cont’d An exercise to compile and publish a second compendium was initiated with stakeholder participation in 2008. The report was not finalised for publication. Data in the second compendium covered the period 2005 – 2008. This report will be edited and finalised for publication to the website.

Environmental Statistics cont’d The Stakeholder Committee will be reconvened to commence compilation and publication of the 3 rd compendium of Environmental Statistics. The 3 rd Compendium of Environmental Statistics is tentatively planned to be released in the First Quarter 2015.

Convene stakeholders meeting to commence compilation of 3 rd Compendium. Evaluate responses; continue contacts with non-responding data providers. New data collection round planned with contacts with data providers. Allocation of clerical staff to assist in collection and compilation of data. To improve the accuracy and timeliness of the data. New staff needed. 2 Clerical staff. Staff training To develop internal capability of environment statistics and indicators in offices Training Workshops on compilation, methodologies and analysis. Production of environment publication To increase knowledge base of local, regional and international interests on environmental issues Review and edit the 2 nd edition of the Environmental Statistics Report. Finalise and publish to the website. Start compilation of data and preparation of report Complete the compilation of the data, prepare and publish the report. Begin the collection of data for the 3 rd edition. New data collection and submission to CARICOM To improve coverage of data Data to CARICOM

Environment Statistics based on Census Data The first and second Compendiums included tables from the 2000 Population and Housing Census related to the dwelling units: - Material of outer walls - Material of roof - Type of ownership - Land tenancy

Environment Statistics based on Census Data cont’d Census 2011 Population and Housing Census Questionnaire included an additional section pertaining to environmental issues affecting 1.The household : - Method of Disposal of Household Garbage - Solid Waste - Water Contamination - Drainage - Air pollution

The data from the 2011 Population and Housing Census is the latest data available for the compilation of the 3 rd Compendium.
