English Key Stage 2 SATs Week beginning Monday 9 th May 2016. Two papers: 1.Reading – Monday 9 th May. 2.G.P.S. – Tuesday 10 th May. Grammar, punctuation & spelling. Location of tests – normal teaching room.

Reading Test Allocation of time 1 hour total (plus settling in time) : No designated reading time. Suggestion is the pupil reads one text and answers the questions about that text before moving on to read the next text. Answer questions in the three sections: (approximately thirty six questions). Question styles Short answers (1 mark) Several line answers (2 marks) Longer answers (3 marks) Other answers (circle or draw lines to connect).

Reading Test: timings & examples of how the marks could be awarded. Timing is something we are encouraging the children to give consideration to so that all of the questions are answered, and time is available to check through their finished work. T Section 1 There are fifteen questions: Eleven 1 mark Four 2 mark Section 2 There are nine questions: Eight 1 mark (can be a & b) One 2 mark Section 3 There are twelve questions: Thirteen 1 mark (can be a - d) Two 2 mark One 3 mark Total 50

Reading Assessment focuses 1.Reading for meaning. 2.Use quotation and reference to text (P.E.E.) 3.Deduce, infer and interpret. 4.Structure and organisational features. 5.Use of language. 6.Overall effect on the reader. 7.Social, cultural and historical background.

Writing Test is continual assessment Allocation of time: Six assessments take place throughout the year. An average ‘score’ will be deduced. End of topic assessments: Comparative report, persuasion, diary entry, letter, narrative, etc. Planning time is included.

Writing Assessment focuses 1.Imaginative, thoughtful texts. 2.Appropriate to task and purpose. 3.Organisation, structure and presentation. 4.Paragraphs and paragraph cohesion. 5.Variety of sentence styles. 6.Accurate punctuation. 7.Effective vocabulary and correct spelling.
