Article of the Week “Marking Up the Text” & “Three-part Source Integration Summary”

Instructions 1. Make sure a PROPER heading is on your article. 2. Number all the paragraphs. 3. Read and then re-read the entire article. 4. Circle any proper nouns (they will be capitalized). 5. Underline all descriptions. 6. Write a “?” by any paragraph unclear to you. 7. Write a “!” by any paragraph you find interesting.

Homework (on binder paper stapled to the article) “3-part Source Integration Summary Writing” – A three-sentence statement that includes the title of the text, the author’s name, author information, source material that is either paraphrased or directly quoted, and a brief statement explaining the significance of the paraphrase or quote.

Three-part Source Integration Summary (Example) In “Ethanol’s Failed Promise,” Lester Brown and Jonathan Lewis, two environmental activists, claim that food-to-fuel mandates are causing damage to our environment (par. 3). This is important because as America moves toward energy independence it must be vigilant to ensure that new energy sources do not cause new problems.
