3 Resume Template 1 Page Fonts: Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial; no smaller than size 11 (except headers) Don’t over bold (titles of sections are ok) Detailed, accurate information No sentence structure – do not use “I” statements or pronouns Be consistent with format: June 2013, 6/13 Organize using titles and bullets to improve readability

4 Header Name - largest; no more than 28 font Voicemail - clear, concise and courteous Email – make sure it is professional (use first and last name) Information - accurate

5 Summary of Qualifications Insert at least 5 qualities or attributes that make you a good candidate for the specific job or internship you are applying for. Job descriptions usually list duties and desired qualifications. Match key words found in job description. Be prepared to back up all qualifications with skill statements in your work experience section and in your interview.

6 DON’T (use I’s or write paragraphs) I would like to work in the marketing field. I have a proven track record of working well with others and have taken many Advertising and Public Relations courses. DO (use bullet points; be specific) Educated in marketing, planning and communications strategy development. Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Mac and Windows Fast learner with a strong work ethic, solid leadership experience and superior networking skills.

8 Education Type the Certificate or Degree you earned or plan to earn, completion date or expected date. Add previously attended college or high school. If you attended high school more than 5 years ago, omit this info. Include educational achievements, such as a GPA of 3.5 or higher, Medal of Honor, President’s List, etc., in bullet format. Example: MiraCosta College, Oceanside, CA  Associate of Arts Degree, Communication, expected June 2017  3.7 GPA  President’s List, 2014, 2015

9 Education – Relevant Coursework Decide if there are 1 or 2 classes that are relevant to the job you are applying for; if so, include them. -Keep it brief. (MiraCosta College catalog has good descriptions of classes; keep your description to 1 or 2 sentences). Example: Relevant Coursework Bus 137, Customer Service: covers positive strategies for internal and external customers, including mystery shopping, surveys, face-to face, telephone, and Internet delivery methods.

10 A Few More Important Sections Leadership/Accomplishments – Business Enrichment Seminar, 2014 – Honors Society, 2013 – Vice President of the Puente Club, 2012 Technology – Industry Specific

11 Experience or Work History Include all experience, both paid and non-paid going back 10 years – Most recent job first – 3-5 skill statements for each job, include accomplishments – Use action words listaction words list – Stick to the same tense Example: Supervised ten team members including scheduling, training and evaluations.
