Last year my best friend Shawn invited me to go with his family to the races. We went to the Metrolina Speedway in Charlotte, NC. The speedway was much larger than I had anticipated. There was a wide oval shaped black track in the middle of a large field. Around the track there were areas called pits where mechanics worked on cars that were having trouble during the race. Between the racetrack and the stands for the people there was a high metal fence for protection.

I have never seen cars zoom as fast as they did during that car race. The drivers began the race when they heard the starting gun that sounded as loud as a firecracker. As the men were racing, the lead kept changing over and over. The same man that had started the race with the loud gun ended the race by waving a black and white checkered flag. All during the race, men with large boxes around their necks went up and down the steps in the stands selling food to the fans. They sold everything from hotdogs to piping hot pizza. We didn’t buy any food because we had brought our lunch with us in a cooler.
