Tonight’s talk We are going to look at: -The North East Learning Collaborative – background and rationale -Some of our ‘products’ and outcomes -What more can we do? -Questions and discussion

North East Learning Collaborative (NELC) – the background -In 2002, several organisations came together initially to share meeting rooms (LADNE) -they developed this further with the aim of filling courses -recognised that there was a great deal of duplication -began to meet formally, to address this key issue

North East Learning Collaborative (NELC) – the background / con’t -2008 – LADNE had grown, with the inclusion of voluntary organisations and some Moray partners -Name changed, eventually to NELC -2011 – publication of the Christie Commission Report, which focused on collaboration

2011 – Christie Commission Report -a fundamental re-shaping of public services -integration / prevention / efficiency -addressing inequality -considers demographic change and the impact on Scotland’s economy

Christie on Learning and Development consider how the development infrastructure could be better coordinated bring together leadership development into a single cross sector programme deliver outcomes in collaboration with partners and service users ensure inter-disciplinary training and development is included in all professional training for public service

Collaboration – some challenges -Different organisational cultures? -Different organisational strategies? -Different organisational budgets? -Different approaches to training and development?

Collaboration – some successes -Joint Mentor Scheme for Managers -“Collaborating for Outcomes” Leadership Programme -“Managing Together” -“Stepping into Supervision” -“Critical Skills for Critical Times” events – addressing ‘ad hoc’ topics -The Leadership Exchange

Collaboration – some numbers -85 Mentors trained – over 120 pairings have worked towards objectives -“CfO” Programmes – 4 th cohort -JSSPs – 16 delivered, over 200 supervisors learning together -MMDPs – 3 delivered, over 75 managers learning and networking

NELC – what next? consolidate our ‘products’ widen our network consider how we could work better together with the private sector build for the future, recognising that fiscal constraint is here to stay
