Claude Monet: The Japanese Footbridge By:Kelvin Dang
2
Step 1:Describe List everything you see even if you are not sure what it is.Use only facts,no opinions! Ask Yourself: What do I see? What colors are used? What shapes are visible? What is the scene? Are there any unknown objects?
3
Step 1:Describe What I see in this photo is a footbridge above a river that has water lilies under it which has a reflection of the bridge and the lilies in the water. The grass on the side makes the scene look more like a natural sighting outside. Also the bridge stands out more in the picture because it is the main idea of the photo. The water lilies create a nice scenery with the bridge. Finally, the picture is a nice blend of the lilies, bridge, and the grass around it.

Step 2:Analyze Explain how what you see is being used in the piece of art. Ask Yourself: How are lines used? How are shapes working? How are textures effective? How does the viewer’s eye move around the piece? Use the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to make a connection with the composition.
5
Step 2:Analyze The colors i see in this picture are pastel colors like is dark green, light green, cyan, brown, and pink. The shapes that I see that were used are organic shapes. The lines in this picture are used curved, vertical, and have some lines going in every direction. The texture in this piece is effective because of how the artist made something real that didn't have much into a piece that had more texture to it.People who see this piece move from the bridge to the surrounding around the bridge to see what the artist created.
6
Step 3:Interpret What do you feel is the meaning of the artwork? Ask Yourself: What do I see happening? How does the art make me feel? What is the most important part of the piece? Why did the artist create this piece? What does this art “say” to me?
7
Step 3:Interpret What I see happening in this picture is a old footbridge that no one remembers and had a dirty river but the artist changed it to look like a nice/beautiful piece by putting water lilies on it.This art piece makes me feel calm and relaxed because of the scenery the artist created of the tall grass on the sides, water lilies in the water and the sunlight that is shining down. What I think that is the most important thing in this piece is the bridge because it used to be old and people forgot about it until Claude Monet saw this as the old river and turning into the piece. What this piece says to me is be calm and relaxed because being calm and relaxed you don't have to worry about stress and things you have to deal with.

Step 4: Judge Do you like the piece of art?Why or why not?Support your decision. Ask Yourself: What do I like about this piece? What did the artist do best? What do I dislike about this piece? What would I change if I were the artist?
9
Step 4:Judge What I like most of this piece is the scenery in the background because the artist changed what the background of the bridge use to be into a piece that is beautiful and unique in its own way.The artist did best on creating something that had nothing but a bridge over a dirty river into a piece that covers what it used to look like. Also the artist made the bridge look nice with the light to dark coloring to the reflection in the water with the water lilies.I would change the piece a little by adding more sunlight beaming down.
