Safe Water Drinking Act (SWDA) Originally passed: 1974 Amended: 1986 and 1996 National Act

Description and Effect The SWDA authorizes the EPA to set national health standards on drinking water, they regulate man-made and natural contaminants. At first it was made to protect water at the tap, but now, of 1996, it focuses on point source pollution and funding for water system improvements.

Agencies The Underground Injection Control (UIC) regulates any fluid being stored or pumped underground The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is authorized to set health standards on water The Office of Groung Water and Drinking Water (OGWDW) protects ground water and drinking water
