6-Mar-2016 Dan Wenman | Installation at CERN 2 Shipment of APAs The plan is to ship air ship the APA’s as they are completed and tested ($10k and10 days) APA’s will be double wrapped and shock mounted in the crates. 35ton being crated

6-Mar-2016 Dan Wenman | FC Installation 3 Option A for rotating APAs vertical Steps: Crate is lying on long edge and large “front”, top edge, and end covers are removed. Lift adaptors are added. In a coordinated move two cranes lift and rotate the APA frame. Ideally the frame is delivered to the beam that runs through the clean room Adapter could have an opening to allow for “threading” over the support beam C.G Is below the lift points. Requires: Crate on edge that allows for removal of the top sides and ends. Design of a suitable lift adapters that do not overstress the APA Proper safety factors for lift frames CERN safety test and approval ~10x6m floor space aligned with crane beam, crane, crane operator, small foot print man-lift

6-Mar-2016 Dan Wenman | FC Installation 4 Option B for rotating APAs vertical Two identical fixtures exist. One was built for Atlas and one for CMS Fixture is rated for 400kg and has been tested at 150% and approved by CERN for 400kg. Fine adjustment of the center of gravity to the rotational axis and adjustment of counter balance to control pitch allow for smooth operation. Estimated fully assembled APA weight with CE is 410kg. CE will not be installed when lifting. Requires: Approval from fixture “owner” Design of a suitable I-frame that does not overstress the APA Proper safety factors for APA and I-frame weight CERN safety test and approval ~10mx6m floor space, crane, crane operator, small foot print manlift to 3m, trained lift operator, trained fixture operator

6-Mar-2016 Dan Wenman | FC Installation 6 Wire tension testing Tension test some quantity of random wires to compare to original wire tensions? Need to define what it means to pass or fail and what to do if tension test fails. Requires: A technician and tension testing equipment (presumably two tension systems exists, but they may be occupied) Test system mounting hardware that can safely test on a vertical APA Access to the entire wire plane while in the vertical position

6-Mar-2016 Dan Wenman | FC Installation 7 ToolsStatus Crane Rigging straps and shackles Wire tension tester and mounting system Mounting system needs to be designed Option A APA lifting adapters Needs to be designed and needs CERN Safety approval Option B Muon chamber lifterNeeds CERN approval I-Frame adapters for lifter Needs to be designed and needs CERN Safety approval Small foot print manliftNeeds to be specified

6-Mar-2016 Dan Wenman | FC Installation 8 Other testing Visually inspect for broken wires or other damage. Continuity testing? Requires a technician, a DMV, “comfortable” access to the wire and CRB boards. Cold testing after integrating with the CE.? Note: Chamber test data needs to be readily available and wire nomenclature easily understood to facilitate locating test data and recording data.
