oneone Objective: To conduct a science investigation in order to determine whether certain materials are magnetic or non- magnetic Energy Note: What materials are magnetic? Drill: 1. Get a Lesson Sheet from the SET. 2. Complete Activity 1 on the ditto. GTE9
2
oneone What are some instances where you have seen or experienced magnetism? What do you think makes a substance magnetic?
3
oneone GTE9 Activity 2: Predictions 3.Examine the substances in the kit. 4.Separate the substances into 3 groups, magnetic, nonmagnetic, and unsure. 5.Why were you unsure about some substances?
4
oneone GTE9 6.You will be testing the substances in the kit for magnetism. Result of your tests will be recorded in the chart. Write an appropriate title for the data chart. 7.Can you identify the additional column headings needed for the data chart? Discuss your ideas with your neighbor. 8.Use your Periodic Table to identify the symbols for your substances. 9.Enter you predictions into the data chart.
5
oneone GTE9 Read the procedures with your group. Conduct the investigation. (Be careful of the materials.)
