2 WP11  UNEXE – UK  NERC - UK  HCMR – Greece  UiB - Norway  CNRS - France  ULPGC - Spain Session 6: Observatories optimization and development Ute Schuster and Jean-Francois Rolin PARTNERS WP12  OGS - Italy  HCMR - Greece  PLOCEAN - Spain  UNEXE - UK  IFREMER - FRANCE  INGV  MI - Ireland  CNRS - France WP12 (cont’d)  ULPGC - Spain  USTAN - UK  nkei - France  UPC – Spain  TEXCEL - UK  UGOT - Sweden  CNR - Italy  IMAR- Portugal

3  WP11: Optimisation of ocean observing capability The specification for an optimum observational network of FixO 3 platforms, integrated and complemented by other platforms. This will optimise the development of multinational, multiplatform observing networks such as ICOS and EMSO.  WP12: Research and development on critical observatory functions The enhancement of the capability of the FixO 3 infrastructures to make very high quality observations and to develop of new low energy consuming platform design in order to promote more sensors per platform and extension capacities. OBJECTIVES Session 6: Observatories optimization and development Ute Schuster and Jean-Francois Rolin

4 TASKS Session 6: Observatories optimization and development Ute Schuster and Jean-Francois Rolin WP11 Task 11.1: Researching minimum and optimum Virtual Observing Networks, VONs (UNEXE, UiB, CNRS, ULPGC) Task11.2: The quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the current network (platforms and parameters) against the VON (UiB, CNRS, UNEXE, ULPGC) Task11.3: Qualitative evaluation of cross-calibration performance (ULPGC, UiB, UNEXE, CNRS) Task11.4: Final publication of recommendations (UNEXE, NERC, HMRC, UiB, CNRS, ULPGC) WP12 Task 12.1 Enhancement of CO 2 measurement (UGOT, OGS, HCMR, UNEXE, NKE, CNR, CNRS) Task 12.2 - Enhancement of pH sensors (ULPGC, OGS, ULPGC, NKE, UGOT) Task 12.3 - Enhancement of measurement of marine sound (UPC, HCMR, Plocan, Ifremer, CNRS, USTAN) Task 12.4- Development of non cabled platform for high data volume sensors, with precise time reference (IFREMER, INGV, MI, NKE, HCMR, UPC, UAzores, TEXCEL)
