Taxpayers are already paying for it! America devotes 17% of GDP to health care, compared with 9% in Britain. Government health spending per head in 2012, before the ACA’s main provisions took effect, was 50% higher than in Britain, which has a nationalized health system. (The Economist Magazine)

Americans Cannot Afford our Healthcare System In 2013 there were 42 million uninsured individuals in the US. In 2025, 27 million people are projected to remain uninsured (Congressional Budget office) 39 million adults were underinsured in 2014 (out of pocket expenses >10% of income, deductible >5% of income. Underinsurance has increased following the ACA, up to 21% in 2014 from 16% in 2010 (Commonwealth Fund).

DOING HARM 42,000 deaths were associated with lack of insurance in 2013. That is 1 death every 12 minutes. THE SOLUTION Medicare works! Americans with Medicare are happier than those with private insurance A single payer Medicare for all system would change ONLY THE FINANCING of care. It would be transparent and publicly accountable. It would take the “middleman” out of the doctor/ patient relationship. Polls show that this approach has the support of 2/3 or the population.
