Comparative advantage- the ability of one country to produce a good or provide a service at a lower cost or more effectively than another country Information Technology (IT)- the use of technology to move, record, and process information Outsource- to hire someone outside a company to do work that was once done inside the company Time zone- an area that uses the same clock time

India has a large, growing workforce Labor costs in India are among the lowest in the world Indians will often accept lower pay because of number of people who want jobs India has a low cost of living Good pay and working conditions make IT jobs attractive to Indians

Almost all educated Indians speak English British officials set up schools where Indians were taught English English is the main language of business Many college classes are taught in English Some companies are teaching workers how to talk with American accents

In the past, many trained Indians could not find work near home so they left India (brain drain) Now, IT professionals are coming back to India (brain gain)

The US loses jobs when they are outsourced to other countries New jobs created by foreign investment help to make up for jobs lost due to outsourcing Build cars, airplanes, and medical equipment The US has many skilled workers IT professionals, engineers, researchers and business people
