Oracle Migration Workbench: Is a wizard-driven Java tool Simplifies the process of migrating third-party databases to the Oracle platform Migrates the entire database schema, including triggers and stored procedures

Migration Workbench Capabilities With Migration Workbench, you can: Perform a migration in stages using wizards and scripts Retrieve source database information via online capture or offline capture Customize Work In Progress database objects in a repository Parse and transform stored procedures, triggers, and views to Oracle PL/SQL Monitor the status of the migration via reports and messages

Workbench Repository Option Migration Workbench provides two repository options: Default repository –Uses Oracle9 i Lite database –Shipped with Migration Workbench Oracle Database Repository –Recommended option –Can use Oracle8 i, Oracle9 i, or Oracle Database 10g Workbench repository

9-9 Copyright © 2004, Oracle. All rights reserved. System Requirements Hardware and software requirements for Migration Workbench: Personal computer based on Intel 80486 processor or higher 128 MB RAM minimum; 256 MB recommended 65 MB disk space Microsoft Windows 98, 2000, XP, or NT

Installing Migration Workbench Software To install the Migration Workbench software, perform the following steps: 1.Download the latest version and the required third-party plug-in from OTN Web site. 2.Log on to the system as a member of the Administrators group. 3.Unzip omwb.zip into a directory. –Implicitly installs the software –Automatically creates the omwb directory 4.Copy the plug-in, SQLServer2k.jar, into the omwb\plugins directory.

Configuring Migration Workbench To configure Migration Workbench: 1.Create a Workbench repository user in the database for the Oracle Database Repository option only. 2.Start the Migration Workbench application. 3.Choose a Workbench repository option. 4.Create the Workbench repository tables. 5.Select the migration source.

Step 1: Creating a Workbench Repository User in the Database If you choose an Oracle database as the repository, you must first create a Workbench repository user in the database: Create a user account, for example, Username: rep_user, Password: rep_user. Assign CONNECT and RESOURCE roles to the user account. Create and assign separate default tablespace with at least 30 MB of disk space to the user account.
