DAY THREE AGENDA: 1.Quiz on Mitosis 2.Review for Second Quarter 4. Mitosis Discussion and Notes 5. Exit Ticket 6. Second Quarter Test next class!
2
REVIEW LAST CLASS’ TARGETS: I can explain the steps of mitosis AND I can explain the steps of how somatic cell are created through mitosis. CELL DIVISION : Mitosis starts Pay Me Any Time
3
TODAY’S TARGETS: I can describe how the process of mitosis is different between animal and plant cells.
5
Prophase
6
TODAY’S TARGETS: I can describe how the process of mitosis is different between animal and plant cells. Metaphase Chromosomes are aligned along the equator of a dividing cell Notice the spindle fibers produced by the centrioles
7
TODAY’S TARGETS: I can describe how the process of mitosis is different between animal and plant cells. Anaphase Spindle fibers pull apart sister chromatid
8
TODAY’S TARGETS: I can describe how the process of mitosis is different between animal and plant cells. Telophase Cytokinesis begins You can see the cell membrane developing between the two cells
9
Cytokinesis in a plant cell TODAY’S TARGETS: I can describe how the process of mitosis is different between animal and plant cells.
10
Cytokinesis in animal cell TODAY’S TARGETS: I can describe how the process of mitosis is different between animal and plant cells.
11
Mitosis produces TWO identical SOMATIC (body) daughter cells. The somatic daughter cells are DIPLOID (contains both sets of chromosomes; a set of mom’s chromosomes AND a set of dad’s chromosomes). TODAY’S TARGETS: I can describe how the process of mitosis is different between animal and plant cells.
12
TODAY’S TARGETS: I can identify situation in which cell would perform mitosis. THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF CELLS. HOW DOES A CELL KNOW TO BECOME ITS SPECIALITY CELL?
13
TODAY’S TARGETS: I can identify situation in which cell would perform mitosis.
14
Genes code for proteins that become signals Cells know nothing about the bigger picture
15
TODAY’S TARGETS: I can identify situation in which cell would perform mitosis. WHAT IF THINGS GO WRONG AND THE CELLS GO ASTRAY? Describe risk factors and provide one example. What is the importance of a checkpoint? Name one major factor that makes cancer difficult to treat and why is this so harmful to your body. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpAa4TWjHQ4
