( Is it still ) ENGLISH CUISINE (?)
2
English cuisine is a mixture of dishes coming from other nations. English cuisine has a small number of original recipes. It is known mainly for lamb in a sauce, fish&chips. These are typically English dishes. You can eat them in every E nglish bar!

In the UK they have Christmas dinner. The table is dominated by three roasts: turkey, goose or boar’s head. Time for a legend…. According to legend, a boar's head appeared on the table to celebrate the adventure that happened to a student from Queen's College, Oxford. Well, on the first day of Christmas he was attacked by a wild boar. Defending himself, he threw Aristotle's book into the beast’s throat. However, the book was too valuable and he did not want to waste it, so he cut off the boar’s head and brought it to college. It was then served as a roast for Sunday dinner.

Nowadays it is popular to go on a diet and British cuisine is unhealthy, tasteless and fattening. Traditional dishes are time-consuming and hard to prepare. English people don’t have time to cook so they go to restaurants owned by representatives of national minorities (such as Indian, Polish, Italian, Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese) to taste new dishes. This is becoming their national habit. British people can afford to eat outside every day.

The English have an access to many products but people do not usually use them in cooking because they don’t know how and are too lazy to try. They choose an easy way and go to restaurants and bars- they don’t learn how to cook. In every shop you can buy ready sandwiches which the English cannot live without. Shops sell thousands of sandwiches every day. In England there is no real tradition of cooking. People do not pay too much attention to what they eat.

In the UK there are a lot of fast food bars, you can find them in every city. They are quick, cheap and tasty. Some employers give away vouchers so that their employees eat in fast food restaurants. In school canteens for years and years fast food (such as burgers or chips and coca-cola) had been given to children. Fortunately, the situation changed a few years ago when the government banned this and introduced healthy food. Surprisingly not everybody is happy. Even some parents object. They bring their children burgers and sweet fizzy drinks because they cannot accept the fact that their kids don’t eat something fatty every day.
