9 Initiative #1 – Student Success – Implement strategies that will foster student success and result in an effective Initiative #2 – Intentional Student Learning and Personal Development – Engage students in intentional active learning opportunities outside the classroom. Initiative #3 – Leadership Development – Create opportunities for students to learn about leadership through their co- curricular, academic, and employment experiences. Initiative #4 – Student Programs and Services – Provide comprehensive programs and services for all students that are recognized for excellence.

10 Initiative #5 – Engagement, Citizenship, and Civility – Encourage campus and community involvement, engagement, citizenship, civility, and Maverick pride. Initiative #6 – Diversity and Inclusion – Cultivate a supportive campus atmosphere based on respect and understanding that embraces individuals from diverse backgrounds and prepares them for a global world. Initiative #7 – Safety and Wellness – Provide educational programs and services that promote student safety and foster student physical, emotional, and personal wellness.

11 Departmental Functions: The Leadership Center provides programming, resources and recognition in three main areas - leadership development, civic engagement, and leadership education to meet the needs of the diverse backgrounds of UT Arlington students in an effort to develop ethical, relational, and global citizens.

12 Departmental Functions: The Department of Student Activities is the center for out-of-classroom activities at UT Arlington. Participating in co-curricular activities helps students gain valuable leadership skills that complement their academic work, enhance and enrich the collegiate experience which forge lasting relationships. Student Activities areas include EXCEL Campus Activities and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

14 Departmental Functions: To provide quality recreation facilities and programs which enhance the lives of the UT Arlington community. In doing so, the department offers programming in Adapted Recreation, Aquatics, Fitness, Informal Recreation, Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, and Wellness as well as operates the Maverick Activities Center (MAC), Campus Recreation Fields Complex (CRFC), Physical Education Building (PEB), and College Park Green.

15 Departmental Functions: The UT Arlington Spirit Groups (Cheer, Dance Team, Wranglers and the mascot, Blaze) join together in providing support for UT Arlington athletic teams and leading the University and Arlington community in spirit.

16 Departmental Functions: The Movin’ Mavs program provides competitive and recreational adapted sport programming and participation opportunities for UT Arlington students and the UT Arlington community. Furthermore, the Movin’ Mavs program competes at the intercollegiate level in wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis.

17 Departmental Functions: Apartment and Residence Life provides a variety of residence hall and apartment options for students to be part of UT Arlington’s vibrant on campus community. Currently, more than 4,100 students live in on campus housing. In order to provide an enriching and engaging residential experience that supports academic success, Apartment and Residence Life provides employment and leadership opportunities for students, hosts recreational, social and academic events for the residents, and promotes safety, security, and wellbeing among our residential students.

19 Departmental Functions: Student Governance and Organizations (SGO) strives to create supportive environments and innovative opportunities for student learning, development and growth. The primary core values and functions include engaging students in the campus community, developing student leaders, and providing programs that enrich the college experience.

20 Departmental Functions: Multicultural Affairs offers a variety of programs that celebrate the rich diversity found at UT Arlington and that educate the campus about current social justice issues. The staff aims to provide activities that recognize diversity on multiple levels including, but not limited to race and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and religious/spiritual diversity. Starting in Fall 2012, the new LGBTQA Program, an initiative of the Division of Student Affairs, is now also housed in Multicultural Affairs. This initiative aims to provide quality programs that contribute to an inclusive atmosphere for our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and ally community on campus.

21 Departmental Functions: The Parent & Family Center provides pertinent information to parents and families in addition to serving as a respondent to inquiries with prompt and accurate information. The Center seeks to cultivate relationships with parents and families, encourage parents to participate in campus activities, and promote donor support among parents. These functions are provided through New Maverick Parent Orientation, the Parent & Family Calendar, newsletter, Maverick Parent & Family Association, scholarships, and the annual Parent & Family Weekend.

23 Departmental Functions: New Maverick Orientation provides first-class orientation programs for freshmen, transfer students, and veterans that serve the high aspirations of The University of Texas at Arlington as well as meets the needs of its diverse and outstanding incoming students. These programs are designed to give students a firm foundation in their academic preparedness for college coursework, an understanding of the services and resources available to support their success, and an introduction to the benefits of involvement in campus life. Students attending New Maverick Freshman Orientation also meet with their academic advisor, plan their schedule, and register for their first semester of classes.

24 Departmental Functions: Off-Campus Mavericks provides programs, services, and physical space to support the needs of UT Arlington’s commuter student population. The department utilizes a of variety social media and electronic communications to keep students up-to-date on the events and activities happening around campus. Additionally, they partner with departments and organizations from around the university to provide programming and other events to connect commuter students. Finally, Off-Campus Mavericks provides space in the Mavericks Activities Center that serves as a home-away-from-home with a computer lab, study and social space.

25 Departmental Functions: OSD strives to foster student success by the provision of accommodations in the classroom, test proctoring in the Adaptive Resource Center, and disability counseling. Further, students with disabilities are offered leadership opportunities through connections to campus organizations, events, and personal development. OSD serves as co-advisor to Delta Alpha Pi, International Honor Society for Students with Disabilities, and designates a representative at the President’s Roundtable.

26 Departmental Functions: Student Publications, through The Shorthorn, provides learning opportunities that allow a student preparing for a career in journalism, advertising, digital media, marketing or related fields to become as good as he or she wants to become in that area.

28 Departmental Functions: The department of University Events at The University of Texas at Arlington collaborates with university departments and organizations to produce major campus events that engage students, staff and faculty, and strengthen students’ ties to the university and the community. Major programs include the MavsMeet AfterParty, Fall Concert, Homecoming, Maverick Speakers Series, Alternative Spring Break, The Big Event and Graduation Celebration.
