NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT PLAN SPREADSHEET VERSION 5.0 UPDATE 2015 Pennsylvania Inter-Agency Nutrient Management Annual Conference Don Orner Penn State Extension Nutrient Management Education Program dgo2@psu.edu
2
Spreadsheet History First required everyone to use the standard spreadsheet in 2009 We have had 4 versions since then Roughly annual updates No major changes Mainly fixing problems Some planners requested an alternative input method in version 4 Alternative input method developed for selected planners Unfortunately, while these were similar, there were differences This has created problems with support and review 1
3
New Spreadsheet Development Process Evaluated support issues with the version 4 Discussed issues with Nutrient Management Program Workgroup Developed a draft proposal for a Version 5.0 Met with planners to go over issues with the current spreadsheet, present a proposal for Version5.0, solicit input. Met with plan reviewers to go over issues with the current spreadsheet, present a proposal for Version 5.0, solicit input. 2
4
New Spreadsheet Development Process(continued) Reworked the spreadsheet to accommodate the changes We are at this point: Released a Beta Test Version to select group of planners.(Testing ends Nov 20 th.) Create detailed “How To” documents for each section Evaluate and resolve identified issues in Beta Version. Barring major issues: Post Version 5.0 on NM website by Dec 2015 Separate spreadsheet guidance from Tech Manual 3
5
Plans for Version 5.0 Only 1 version of the spreadsheet for all users Two Input sheets for entering information Then transferred to the following sections for printing: Appendix 3 (Manure Group Information ) Appendix 4 (Crop & Manure Management ) Appendix 5 (P Index) Winter Application Matrix NMPs have both text and calculation requirements Separate the text section into a WORD form for easier input Keep the calculations in the spreadsheet 4
6
Separation of Text and Calculations 5
7
Plans for Version 5.0 Other New Items: Input sheet for entering Appendix 3 Manure Group Information 5 year Manure Average Worksheet Create a Farm Specific Crop List AASL Crop Soil Test Recommendations Automatically populated Add additional Animal Types Animal Weight Calculator Ability to Transfer a NMP Version 4.X to Version 5.0 6
8
Appendix 3 Manure Production and Analysis An Input sheet developed for entering all Appendix 3 calculation data A worksheet for calculating 5 year running average manure analysis was added. This will transfer directly into Appendix 3 7
9
Appendix 3 Input Sheet One Manure Group with all 6 animal groups on one line Analysis Results transferred from Manure Average Worksheet Cell Color Designations Yellow-data entry. White -contain formulas. They send-receive information. Grey-maybe cells. Grey cells turn yellow if more information is needed. 8
