Statistics Over half of African Americans between the ages of 24 and 34 have never married. African Americans have the highest divorce rate of all the major ethnic groups in the US. More than two-thirds of African American children are born to unmarried parents. 62% of African American households are headed by a single parent. There is a large disparity between the number of available women and men.
