3 INSTRUMENTAL ROCK: This type of Rock emphasizes the musical instruments and has very little or no singing. This style was at its peak in the mid 1950's to the mid 1960's. Then in the 1980's and 1990's it became dominated by solo guitarists.

5 EXPERIMENTAL ROCK: Experimental Rock is what it says. It is a form of Rock music the experiments with different time signatures, guitar tunings, keys and effects. Experimental Rock began in the 1960's. It is also known as Avant-Garde Rock.

9 PSYCHEDELIC ROCK: Psychedelic rock is a style of rock music that was influenced by the psychedelic culture of the 1960's. It often used effects and sometimes used the ragas and drones of Indian music. It emerged as a genre during the mid- 1960's among folk rock and blues rock bands in the UK and in the USA.

11 PROGRESSIVE ROCK: Progressive Rock developed from Psychedelic Rock in Britain during the 1960's and 1970's. The idea of Progressive Rock was to give Rock music more artistic credibility. It is experimental with compositional structure, instrumentation, harmony, rhythm, and lyrical content. Progressive rock sometimes doesn't have a danceable beat unlike other forms of Rock music.

19 GLAM ROCK: Glam Rock is a style of Rock that emerged from Psychedelic Rock in Britain during the 1970's. Performers would wear outrageous outfits with wacky hairstyles, big boots and lots of glitter. Glam Rock is very diverse and is a mix of many different styles. This subgenre is well known for its openness about sex and gender.
