1 CASE STUDIES Could this be unlawful discrimination under the UDHR? Which article corresponds to each case?

2 Edward “I use a wheelchair to get around and I’m finding it very hard to get a place at my local college. I want to study science and the labs are on the first floor. The college hasn’t got a lift and they say they can’t afford to have one put in just for me so I must go somewhere else. Travelling any distance is really difficult and expensive so I don’t want to go to another college.” Amira “I was refused an apprenticeship at a local hairdresser’s because I wear the hijab and they say that all staff must wear their hair in trendy styles to impress the customers. I’m not prepared to do this as it is against my beliefs.” Sam “One of my friends, who is a girl, has said I can’t be a social care worker because it is a ‘girls job’. She said all men that work as social workers are probably gay.” Patrick I am a traveller living on a site with my family in a caravan. I have been to four primary schools, each in a different town. Now I am twelve and I don’t go to school anymore. Shirin I am a female refugee from Afganistan. I am a Muslim. My parents have been killed and my uncle has brought me to Cyprus. I am waiting to be told by the Cyprus government whether I can stay.

3 Kostas I am 50 years old from Greece and I am unemployed. I have tried to get work but I have been told that I don’t have enough skills. Sanya I am 12 years old and I live in Delhi, India. My father cannot find work so I need to work in a sewing factory for about 10 hours a day. Blessing I am 18 years old and I live in Turkana, Northern Kenya. I have never been to school. Girls from Turkana don’t go to school. Troy I have been found guilty of murdering a police officer and I am now on death row in a prison in the USA. My lawyer is still trying to get me off as there is no real evidence linking me to the murder. Grace I am from Sudan. We walked for days, for months, thousands of miles. We ate leaves to survive. People shot at us and many children were killed. What happened to my parents? I don’t know.
