Fun Facts Lincoln Logs are named after President Lincoln because of his upbringing in a log cabin. His colleagues called him the “Original Gorilla” behind his back because he was so ugly. He was clean shaven until he entered the office of the presidency. Recommended by a friend so it would improve his appearance Douglas mocked Lincoln for selling whiskey. Lincoln responded with “Yes, it is true that the first time I saw Judge Douglas I was selling whiskey by the drink. I was on the inside of the bar, and the judge on the outside; I busy selling, he busy buying.”
