LAGUNA-LBNO at Fréjus – General Meeting, Geneva, 10 – 12 June 2013 December 2012 (Official announcement January 2013): decision to open the safety tunnel to the road traffic (direction Italy to France). This decision, according to Lombardi SA, could present some technical difficulties in the management of the Laguna building site. Alternative solutions LAGUNA-LBNO @ Fréjus - Resume of the situation 3

LAGUNA-LBNO at Fréjus – General Meeting, Geneva, 10 – 12 June 2013 Excavation cross section ≈ 70 m 2 The ventilation system during the new access tunnel construction will be according to the AFTES 2003 recommendations (fresh air intake by separate duct and exhaust air aspiration at front face) LAGUNA-LBNO @ Fréjus - Resume of the situation 5
6
LAGUNA-LBNO at Fréjus – General Meeting, Geneva, 10 – 12 June 2013 Exhaust air duct ≈ 12 m 2 Free section (fresh air) ≈ 40 m 2 Final free shape for by-directional traffic or over-size transports The upper air duct can be used as a smoke extraction facility (necessary considering the length of the tunnel – 7 km) The main necessity linked to the cross section definition is related to the ventilation of the Laguna building site (in particular the tanks construction phase) according to AFTES recommendations. Max fresh air volume needed = 200 m 3 /s Max speed of fresh air in the tunnel = 5 m/s Max speed of exhaust air = 20 m/s LAGUNA-LBNO @ Fréjus - Resume of the situation 6

Additional mortar layer with TiO 2 paint (problems?) Open questions: reflexion capability ev. No Tyvek? 16
