Theodore Roosevelt Jr. was born on October 27 th, 1858 in Manhattan, New York. He attended Harvard where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and then attended Columbia law school until he decided to begin his career in politics Throughout his political career, he became the President of the Unites States, Vice President of the United States, Governor of New York, Assistant secretary of the Navy, member of the New York State Assembly, and the New York State Assembly Minority Leader.

First U.S. major leader (aka President) to see environment as important. As president, he created the United States Forest Service (USFS), which helps manage and protect 154 national forests and 20 grasslands in 44 states and Puerto Rico. Signed the American Antiquities Act of 1906, allowing the President to give specific governmental aid and protection to environmentally historic or important lands in the U.S. Also signed into law 5 national parks, 51 bird reserves, 4 game reserves, and 150 0f the national forests managed and protected by the USFS.

Theodore Roosevelt had a major impact on the environmentalist movement in America. He greatly increased the push for the importance and protection of the environment and he is one of the founders of the conservation movement in America. Sustainability and conservation being of major importance in our class, without Teddy Roosevelt Jr., our class would look much different. Environmental science as a whole would more than likely not be where it is today without this man.
