When did Petrified Forest National Park become a park It first tried to become a park in 1895 but congress turned the bill down. Then in December 8, 1906 it became a national monument. Finally in December 9, 1926 It became a national park

It became a monument because Petrified Forest National Monument was created by President Theodore Roosevelt stating that, …the mineralized remains of Mesozoic forests…are of the greatest scientific interest and value and it appears that the public good would be promoted by reserving these deposits of fossilized wood as a National monument with as much land as may be necessary for the proper protection thereof.
