2 What are their aims?  To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth;  To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources;  To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.

3 What is their history?  1892 - Sierra Club founded on May 28 with 182 charter members. John Muir elected first President.  1898 - Club establishes an office in Yosemite Valley to aid and educate visitors  1903 - President Theodore Roosevelt visits Yosemite with John Muir. Membership reaches 663.  1930 - Membership reaches 2,537  1964 - After years of battle, Congress passes the Wilderness Act, the first wilderness protection legislation in the world.

4 What is their status?  The sierra club are part of a membership group who represent a single issue. Its argued that its members sign up to receive the material benefits on offer, however, also to make a difference worldwide.

5 What is their membership?  The Sierra Club is now the nation's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization.  It has 2.4 million members.  The sierra club has prices ranging from $15-$100 to become a member.  Benefits of being a member are: tax deduction, $750 discount when you go solar, free newsletter and discounted visits to national parks.

6 How do they do it?  Over 200 trained lobbyists.  Lawful campaigning  Social media  Blogs  Petitions  A massive revenue of $86,868,726

7 Are they successful?  Their activism has helped change Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, improve car emissions, and much more.  The organization’s most significant accomplishment in climate change is the Beyond Coal campaign. Through lawsuits, target media education, grassroots action, and other strategies, Sierra Club has helped stop over 100 proposed coal plants and retired many others.
